It’s unusual for us to get political, but when a presidential candidate and his wife each pay us a visit in the same week, it’s hard not to notice.

And while we insist we’re not being partisan, it’s also hard not to notice the Obama fever that’s swept—at press time, at least—most of the country.

Pictured above is Michelle Obama during a Jan. 31 rally at the Grand Opera House in downtown Wilmington. Behind Ms. Obama is Wilmington Mayor James Baker, who is flanked by City Council President Ted Blunt and Council Member-at-Large Theo Gregory.

Three days later, on Feb. 3, Barack Obama came to Rodney Square and was greeted by a crowd reported to be about 8,000 strong, one of the largest in recent memory. Among the supporters was this woman, whose simple message seems to be shared by the voting public. Should we do another look back 20 years from now, we wonder how these images will hold up, and whether the Obamas’ passing-through was a feverish moment that came to an end or merely a stop on the way to bigger places.
